This is a new feature we're currently working on and testing. It's going through an accelerated roll out because NaNoWriMo starts in a few days. Please let me know if you see any bumps or bruises along the way.

Is it possible? Absolutely.

Is it going to happen? Probably, although I don't think it's going to buy you anything. Users don't have to mark content as NSFW or 18+ and I guarantee that many users don't (it's among least used features we have). If I implement some sort of support for adult content (cutting the entries probably), 99% of the time you're still going to see the adult content.

I just had another thought. Can you do the latest posts feed thing for "follow friday", too? It looks like several people are doing it, and that might help it take off. (Do say if that should go in suggestions instead)

That would be great, and is exactly what I thought when I saw Mark's post. We'd want to standardise on a tag (followfriday, follow+friday, dwfollowfriday?).

I like this--it's the way it works on twitter for trends and is really helpful. I've no idea if that's in some way automatically generated or if they edit two trends together manually, could be either I guess.

There is one called latest_optout . Not sure where it is set, though...

LJ used to make us set that through the console but they moved it to account setting at some point. I think it's the 'content promotion' box.

Edit: so the console command works but, as expected, not retroactively which means that if you did not set the command before this was introduced, your entries will still be displayed unless you delete them (or lock them I guess).

I hate that setting though, so I chose not to advertise it in my journal. When we post to news about this, I'm quite sure Denise will tell everyone how to do it.

Woo! Another thought: right now when the post is cut off, there isn't any indication it is cut off, and it cuts off right in the middle of a word. A nice finishing touch would be to at least make a (read more) or some other kind of indicator when that happens, and maybe to cut it off at a better place. Might be a good thing to file as a bug for somebody else to play with!
