Pump priming.

[staff profile] mark
I'm priming the pump, this entry is tagged "nnwm09" which means that you will be able to find it in the "find latest posts tagged nnwm09" page:

http://www.dreamwidth.org/latest?tag=nnwm09

Note that this doesn't work with all tags -- only with ones we explicitly allow. For now, that's nnwm09. Even though this entry has nothing to do with nnwm09. ;-)

This is a new feature we're currently working on and testing. It's going through an accelerated roll out because NaNoWriMo starts in a few days. Please let me know if you see any bumps or bruises along the way.

Is it possible to make the latest posts feed include NSFW settings in some way, please?

That is extremely cool, though.

Maybe there could be some sort of blurb saying "these entries may contain 18+/NSFW material, view at your own discretion"?

I just had another thought. Can you do the latest posts feed thing for "follow friday", too? It looks like several people are doing it, and that might help it take off. (Do say if that should go in suggestions instead)

That would be great, and is exactly what I thought when I saw Mark's post. We'd want to standardise on a tag (followfriday, follow+friday, dwfollowfriday?).

I see someone posting to 'nanowrimo' -- I think maybe instead of:
# %LATEST_TAGS = ( map { $_ => 1 } qw/ tag othertag bigtag littletag / );
it should be something like>
%LATEST_TAGS = { nnwm09 => 'nnwm09', nanowrimo => 'nnwm09', nnwm => 'nnwm09' }; to allow multiple tags to be treated as the same global tag?

I like this--it's the way it works on twitter for trends and is really helpful. I've no idea if that's in some way automatically generated or if they edit two trends together manually, could be either I guess.

Another good one to have might be "dreamwidth" and "dw", so that Denise can keep track of what people are saying about the service itself.

Will there be a privacy setting to allow one's entries not to be included (like there is on LJ I believe)?

There is one called latest_optout . Not sure where it is set, though...

LJ used to make us set that through the console but they moved it to account setting at some point. I think it's the 'content promotion' box.

Edit: so the console command works but, as expected, not retroactively which means that if you did not set the command before this was introduced, your entries will still be displayed unless you delete them (or lock them I guess).

"your entries" as in all my future entries will be displayed, meaning in effect there's no way to opt out, or??

No, no, no, no! I meant the entries you posted before you opted out. And as Mark said, even then, they only stay for a short time (like one hour). Or not at all if you lock them.

No problem. I just didn't want to mention it without mentioning the opt out and potentially create unnecessary 'drama'.

Thoughts:

This page should probably disallow indexing by robots or something, there's no reason for it to be in Google.

Woo! Another thought: right now when the post is cut off, there isn't any indication it is cut off, and it cuts off right in the middle of a word. A nice finishing touch would be to at least make a (read more) or some other kind of indicator when that happens, and maybe to cut it off at a better place. Might be a good thing to file as a bug for somebody else to play with!
